Metal Gear Survive: Beta Incoming Next Week

Konami have released details for the beta of their upcoming survival shooter, Metal Gear Survive.

“METAL GEAR SURVIVE BETA will be available for 3 days from February 15 to 18th, 2018 on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Steam.”

Metal Gear Survive is a spin off of Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain. The game sees the player transported to a hostile parallel world inhabited by hellish creatures, wandering a hellish landscape. Metal Gear Survive features a single-player campaign and an online co-op mode with progress and rewards carrying over to each mode. So far, there has been no announcement of a multi-player PvP mode which might disappoint some fans.

This is the second beta for Survive, the first drawing mixed responses from players and critics who found the game-play too generic and a departure from the overall feel of the previous titles in the Metal Gear series.

Further negativity was fanned by the inclusion of micro-transactions, requiring a constant online connection and controversy surrounding the departure of longtime developer, Hideo Kojima, means the second beta may receive a lukewarm reception.

Rockstar announces release date for Red Dead Redemption 2

In a short but to the point post, Rockstar announced the release date for Red Dead Redemption 2.

“We are excited to announce that Red Dead Redemption 2 will be released on October 26th 2018. We apologize to everyone disappointed by this delay.”

Rockstar have given the reason for the delay as needing extra time to polish the final product which “you agree will be worth it”.

This is not the first time that Rockstar have delayed a major title in order to add some finishing touches. Grand Theft Auto 5 was delayed several times for the PS3 and Xbox 360. The developer was equally tight lipped regarding details surrounding the delays for GTA 5 when first announced.

The post does not reveal much information about what to expect from Red Dead Redemption 2, we can at least enjoy some tasty screenshots to get our appetites wet.

Take a look below at the first screenshots from the new iteration of Red Dead Redemption 2:

HALO Master Chief Collection – plans laid out for a massive update in 2018

Support is still going strong

Good news Halo fans! Bungie announced on Wednesday that the Master Chief Collection will be receiving a large technical update.

In the post, community manager ske7ch, announced that moving forward they would be “cracking open MCC to perform some critical updates and fixes to improve the experience for everyone, as well as enhance the title for Xbox One X.”

The Master Chief Collection was originally released in November 2014, giving fans the opportunity to play remastered editions of the first three halo titles. The Master Chief Collection was highly anticipated but on release, severe matchmaking issues forced Bonnie Ross, head of 343 industries to issue a public apology.

The post repeatedly mentions closer ties with the community “With this project in particular we are excited to foster a new relationship with our fans”, ske7ch says. And asks that players ” come with a positive mindset and assume positive intent.”

Halo Master Chief on Space BackdropThe Master Chief Collection is being worked on by a smaller team which is “completely separate from the broader 343 team working on the next Halo FPS title.” Expect the road to fixing the Master Chief Collection to be a long one but players can get involved with testing.

Bungie’s plan of attack is a division of testing, with mention of an external partner to help with the internal development. The community will be able to participate in the ongoing development as part of the Xbox Insider program. For now however, this will remain an internal process.

Foundations are a priority for the updates to take place. Ske7ch mentions several important features including matchmaking API’s, platform XDKS (increasing visual enhancements) and Peer Connections.

Overall, the Master Chief Collection is due for some much needed attention to the internal workings. The post is careful not to give a timescale but with such a mammoth task ahead who can blame them?
