Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor Gravewalker E3 Trailer out now!

Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment (WBIE) and Monolith Productions have released their Gravewalker trailer of Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor ready to premiere at E3 next week. The trailer shows protagonist Talion on his journey for vengeance, forever accompanied by the immortal Wraith Spirit thanks to an infallible curse. Like Talion, the Wraith Spirit is seeking revenge on Sauron and his army of pure evil.

Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor is scheduled for release on October 7 for PS4, Xbox One, PS3, Xbox 360 and PC. Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor is all about defining your own personal path for vengeance as you bend the dynamic game environment, that is Mordor, to your will. It all begins when Sauron returns to Mordor, slaying the Rangers of the Black Gate with the help of his Black Captains. Players take on the persona of Talion, a ranger who’s lost his family and everything he values leaving him empty.

Depending on the player’s actions within the game, the Nemesis System will sculpt every enemy encountered into a distinct and unique foe which can even evolve to become a personal archenemy through the course of the game.  As Talion’s personal vendetta plays out, you’ll uncover the mystery of the Spirit that drives him, discover the origin of the Rings of Power and confront the ultimate nemesis.

Still a while yet till Xbox One goes full HD

forza5The holy grail of video game graphical output is 1080p. This is the highest, if we leave 4K alone for now, available graphical output. Microsoft has long stated that DirectX 12 would re-ignite Xbox One and give it the full HD output needed to compete against PlayStation 4. Sadly, developers working on a plethora of different titles – from Shadow Warrior to Watch Dogs – have all stated that the DirectX 12 Update is a relatively poor update from Microsoft.

For those that do not know, DirectX is a collection of Microsoft created application programming interfaces (APIs) that are designed to handle high-end multimedia output. They are conditioned especially for video game programming on the myriad of Microsoft platforms. The DirextX perspective allows developers to create mind-blowing content that really accentuates the Microsoft platform. This cross-dimensional approach allows DirectX to get the very best out of video game output. This has generally been the case on the PC platform for many years and before you keyboard warriors start, there are many issues but a large part of the community supports the platform!

The soon-to-be released DirectX 12 will work on Xbox One, Windows 8 (and the 8.1 Windows Phone/RT environments) along with the Windows server software. It is earmarked for general release in December 2015. However, Beta versions have been dispatched to top multimedia companies – including Ubisoft, Codemasters, Square Enix and Rockstar to name but a few.

DirectX 12 therefore, as more and more developers go public, might not be Xbox One’s saving grace? The industry honchos discussing DirectX 12 seem to be arguing that 1080p is not the default – in fact it could help in the porting of games from PC to Xbox One but otherwise might be a huge flop. However, since the DirectX 12 edition is still in beta it is too early to completely ‘bin’ the API. But, Microsoft has form here – DirectX 10 was panned and Microsoft just went ahead and released it! That said, the current state of the Xbox One compared to Sony’s PlayStation 4 could, along with the massive re-structuring at Microsoft, cause the head managers to focus on quality and not deadlines and targets. All we can do is hope. The Xbox One needs a coup de grace if it is to avoid mediocrity and uselessness.

Finish Him…. It’s Coming Soon To The Next Gen Consoles, Mortal Kombat X Announced!

Mortal-Kombat-10-Fan-Screen-1.1Suddenly appearing on Amazon today, Mortal Kombat X has been ‘outed’ by developer NetherRealm and publisher Warner Brothers. The slip-up by the US online retailer said the game was to be launched in 2015, at some point? However, co-creator of Mortal Kombat and Creative Director of NetherRealm Studios, Ed Boon has been quietly, well as quietly as you can with nearly a hundred thousand followers, started to tease the release of one of the most influential video games in history. The presses, from the bastions of press release re-writing like IGN to the gutter rags like Metro have all started to go ‘viral’ about the announcement of Mortal Kombat 10 or X depending on where you are reading this. Mortal Kombat is a game that changed everything. In 1993 a game was released which trigged a slight ‘controversy’. To put into context, the BBC paid great lip service to Warner Bros’ release of Mortal Kombat saying it “was the equivalent of Disney distributing Reservoir Dogs or American Psycho on Sesame Street.” Mortal Kombat has become a brand that has survived long after the demise of the myriad of consoles it has enlightened. The news that Mortal Kombat X will hit the ‘next-gen’ consoles has already started to wet fans’ appetites about thumping Sub Zero or thrashing Raven in beautiful high def, or as high def as one 720p can go with the next gen consoles! More news will be forthcoming as the developer releases more information. So keep tuned!
